INVESTMENT: $1,250.

Reportedly coined in 1939, the term white-collar crime is now synonymous with the full range of fraud related crimes committed by business and government professionals. The motivation behind these crimes is financial—to obtain or avoid losing money, property, or services or to secure a personal or business advantage.

White-collar crime is widespread not only in the developed world, but in emerging economies. Typical white-collar crimes could include wage theft, fraud, bribery, Ponzi schemes, insider trading, labour racketeering, embezzlement, cybercrime, copyright infringement, money laundering, identity theft, and forgery.

Some of the most common types of white collar crimes are identity theft, mortgage broker fraud, bribery, embezzlement and tax evasion. All of these can be described as Fraud.
