COURSE DESCRIPTION: A law enforcement officer will be required to write reports of varying technicalities based on his/her diverse work portfolios. These reports will include but is not limited to pocket diaries, post diaries, station diaries, reports of incidents, reports of investigations, progress reports, final reports, assessment reports, meeting reports, etc. A key factor is to write the report in the best possible way so that the right information is captured.

This course will not only explain the various types of reports and what is required in each, but it will train officers on how each type of report must be written - what should and should not be included. In reporting writing, there are some basic questions that must be asked and responded to in the document, for example, who, what, where, when, why, and how. These will all be adequately covered in this course.

For a law enforcement officer to “move up the ranks” as they say, one key skill that is needed is sound report writing. This course gives such an aspiring officer the tools necessary. But, this can only come with practice. Importantly, the course will highlight to the security officer many of the common errors made and provide suggestions to correct such.
