Unfortunately, crime in almost every category is on the rise across the country. Advances in technology have fueled a demand for a new breed of law enforcement professional equipped to meet the changes in national security. Below is an overview of several rewarding law enforcement careers that are in demand in today’s security-conscious society.

Police Officer
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has over 6500 Police Officers in varying ranks. The TTPS is organised into 9 Divisions and 18 Branches, Squads and Units. These are: Community Police, Police Complaints, Special Branch, Guard and Emergency Branch, Criminal Investigation Division and Criminal Records Office, Organized Crime and Narcotics Unit, Homicide, Fraud Squad, Court and Process, Police Band, Mounted and Canine Branch, Police Training College, E-999, Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, Transport and Telecoms. The TTPS is charged with the maintenance of law and order, prevention and detection of crime and the prosecution of offenders. 

Forensic Scientist
Forensic scientists use cutting-edge scientific techniques to preserve and examine evidence and develop investigative leads in connection with civil and criminal proceedings. Often, forensic analysts specialize in areas such as DNA analysis or firearm examination. As developments in technology increase the role of forensic science in the court room, the demand for forensic scientists will continue to grow.
Customs Agent

Immigration Officer
The role of the Immigration Division is to ensure National Security by effectively monitoring the movement of persons into, within and out of the country and to provide an efficient and effective passport service. Immigration officers facilitate this mission.

Coast Guard
The mission of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard is "to defend the sovereign good of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and to provide, on a continuous basis, quality service for security and safety within its maritime boundaries and in any other area of responsibility agreed to by the state to fulfill its international obligation."  As a member of the Coast Guard team, you will play a key role in supporting this mission.

The Coast Guard is an arm of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, which falls under the authority of the Ministry of National Security.

National Roles of the Coast Guard include:

  • Surveillance of the Waters under T & T Jurisdiction
  • Logistical Support to T & T Land Forces
  • Port Security (ISPS Code)
  • Assistance in Scientific Research
  • Aid to Civil Law Enforcement
  • Anti-Smuggling / Counter-Narcotic Operations
  • Fisheries Protection and Enforcement
  • Pollution Surveillance and Enforcement
  • Safety of Shipping

Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) Officer
The mission of the ODPM is to build national Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation capabilities with our partners and coordinate response and recovery operations in order to protect the people, environment and economy and ensure a disaster resilient nation. ODPM is a Division of the Ministry of National Security and their staff and officers facilitate this.

Fire Officer
Fire Officers are mandated under the Fire Service Act Chapter 35:50 of the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago. The Fire Service operates under four main divisions strategically located throughout the country. These are the Northern Division, Southern Division, Central Division and Tobago Division. Additionally, the Ambulance Service is a 24 hour, 7 days a week response unit, set up to give ready assistance to person in need of emergency care. Over 62 firefighters specially trained, as Paramedics and 24 ambulances are strategically located throughout the 4 divisions.

Regimental Officer
The Trinidad and Tobago Regiment is the main ground force element of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force. It has over 2000 men and women organized into a Regiment Headquarters, located in Chaguaramas and four battalions. The regiment has two primary roles; Maintaining the internal security of Trinidad and Tobago and the assistance of local law enforcement. As one of the larger military forces in the region, the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment is also one of the main units used in peacekeeping and humanitarian situations from the Caribbean region.
