Miami Dade College School of Justice in partnership with the Caribbean Institute for Security and Public Safety present a 3-day training programme on: Facing Dangerous Situations: Tactics and Strategies for Responding Officers.

Officers in their line of duty face a range of dangerous and threatening situations. They must be adequately prepared and trained to respond appropriately to such situations. Officers may be responding to robberies, break-ins, shootings, emergency alarms, domestic violence, community protests, etc. This course empowers Responding Officers with the necessary tactics and strategies using international and local standards. Participants will experience hands-on training on all areas. Scenario-Based Training - Practical Training of all techniques taught.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: One of the worst things that can happen to any organization is its destruction and/or damage due to fire. Not only can there be enormous financial losses, but there can simultaneously be social, psychological and other economic dislocations that can cripple companies, and importantly, people’s lives. This course aims to prevent and manage such occurrences by empowering participants with the requisite competence.

The course discusses the science of fire prevention and management. It then goes on to tackle the various strategies that must be developed and implemented to both prevent as well as manage such disastrous occurrences. It will cover the various steps and techniques as well as international best practices to get this done.

As there are different types of fires that may occur (this will be covered), the course delves into the various types of solutions (e.g., equipment) available and required to respond to any of such occurrences. Key to this course will be focus on the critical but often downplayed role of drills. Drill design and implementation will be covered.

The key processes of evacuation and training will be underscored in this course. The course presents a conceptual as well as a practical and interactive methodology to training and learning.

Overall, at the end of the course, participants will know the DOs and DONTs to ensure that their organization is as best prepared as possible to prevent and manage fires in the workplace.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: For all organizations, fire safety is of extreme importance as loss of building, its contents, injury and even death of personnel are literal nightmares for both organization and persons. 

This course prescribes what are the various policies and practices that organizations should adopt to prevent and deal with fire safety. It deals considerably with having an appropriate policy in place (how to develop one), instituting the pertinent strategies to enact the policy, and most importantly, drills down to the various operational fire safety requirements (the DOs and DONTs). Therefore, the course tackles fire safety in three dimensions: before, during, and after. Contemporary fire safety policies and practices will be delivered in this course for much has changed from yesteryear. Interesting in this course is a step-by-step approach to proactive fire safety measures.

Home owners/dwellers are also specially catered for in this course. What systems do you have in place for your home in terms of fire safety? The course deals with simple and cost effective systems to prevent and deal with any such losses.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides training in emergency medical care for  individuals who may be first persons on the scene responding to incidents of man-made and natural emergencies. These may also include accidents and acts of violence. The focus is on the specific emergency situations that are likely to occur. 

Participants will also learn various strategies for psychologically handling those involved, that is, the victim, the perpetrator, on-lookers, relatives, etc. so that the proper and relevant care can be administered more effectively. All participants will develop a greater sense of preparedness for First Responder situations.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Officers from the various arms of the private  and public protective services are required to use handcuffs and baton as part of their regular duties when required. This can be described as a staple component of their protective outfit.

This course teaches and/or refreshes participants on how to effectively use handcuffs and batons in their real world scenarios. Participants will also learn the legalities involved in the use of force as well as strategies regarding their personal safety while using force to restrain others.

Participants will be exposed to the various situations that they may find themselves in and how they may use the handcuff and baton. They will have to demonstrate the proper and lawful execution of strategies taught in selected simulated situations.

This is a 4 hour programme.
