COURSE DESCRIPTION: “Your home is your castle.” Everyone wants to live in a safe and secure place. Home Security is a critical concern for all persons be they residing in small, average or a large house or apartment – given what is currently taking place in our society. This course deals with all of the practical solutions that home owners, landlords or tenants need to adopt to ensure that their place of abode and the dwellers themselves are secured as far as possible. It will ensure that parents, grandparents, children and all persons living by themselves – rich, middle class or poor - have a better quality of life by putting adequate systems in place.

Home Security is both design-based (that is when you are building your house as well as what physical things can be done after construction) and lifestyle-based (that is what changes you need to adopt in the way you carry about yourselves in and around your home and neighbourhood) to secure your home, family and yourselves?

In this course, the following topics will be discussed in the Trinidad and Tobago context and effective solutions will be presented: home invasion (robbery, violence, burglary, etc), home security (locks, windows, doors, fence, lights, etc.), alarm systems (types, monitoring, etc.), apartment security (DOs and DONTs, etc.), vacation security (DOs and DONTs before and while on vacation, etc.), lifestyle security, physically protecting yourself, confronting the bandit (e.g., in your house, when driving into your home, etc.).

The course is highly geared towards being prevention-based and what to do if a security breach actually occurs. And, it may not have to cost a fortune to have an adequate home security system in place.
